Workers in the vineyard with large clusters of grapes

Brother Peter Gao speaks on the reality of harvest time- “Those who sow in tears shall reap with joyPsalm 126:5
As the grape harvest fast approaches, the brothers will soon be busy picking grapes in our vineyard. This is a period the community cherishes deeply; it brings us not only an abundance of produce but also a profound sense of joy and unity. During this season, every brother in our monastery participates in the harvest. It is a beautiful sight to see each one of us, regardless of our roles, coming together in the spirit of unity, laboring in the vineyard. This shared endeavor is a living testament to the brotherly love that binds us, reflecting the very essence of our community. The grape harvest is more than just a time of reaping what we have sown; it symbolizes our collective effort, perseverance, and faith. Each grape picked represents the tears we’ve shed, the challenges we’ve overcome, and the love we’ve shared as a community.
This is also a time for us to reflect on the blessings we’ve received from God, a reminder of His generosity. As we gaze upon the bountiful vines, we are reminded of the abundance that God has blessed us with. It is a time to express our gratitude and acknowledge the divine hand that has guided us through the seasons of sowing and reaping.
Moreover, the harvest echoes the warning of the end of time that Jesus gives us in the Gospel, urging us to be prepared for God’s coming. Just as the harvest separates the ripe grapes from the vine, so too will God distinguish the good from the evil at the end of time.
Brothers, as we partake in this communal activity, let us remember that our time on earth is finite. Let us sow love, reap joy, and prepare ourselves for the ultimate harvest.

Bountiful Blessings,

Your brothers of New Clairvaux
