A Trappist monk lights candles for Holy Mass

Brother Christopher shares on a heartfelt topic: It would be impossible to overstate the Greatness of the Holy Mass and the mysteries that take place within it. It is our faith that each Mass, of however lowly earthly circumstances, is a direct participation in the Life of Heaven. At each Mass we are invited into the inner life of the Triune God, to join the Son as He offers His eternal self-gift to the Father in the Power of their Holy Spirit of Infinite Love. All this invisible action actually takes place before our eyes under the guise of sacramental forms and creaturely images.

To bring the Mass to earth requires the Church, it requires human participants. No participants = no Mass taking place. What a tragedy it is when the Mass is absent. I have heard many describe the pain they felt at being cut off from the Mass during the Covid pandemic . For myself, among the many reasons the monastery drew me was the opportunity to take part in Holy Mass every day.

What happens at each Mass? Because it is God’s life being poured out in our midst, miracles abound. All over the world souls that were headed to their ruin turn back, the sick are healed, unbelievers gain faith and spiritual sight, souls are released from purgatory, generosity in giving to others is enkindled, natural disasters are averted, the work of demons are blunted.

All this flows from our participation. When we are in our heavenly homeland we will realize how much the whole world benefited from our participation in the Holy Mass.

Endless Blessings of Peace and Love,

Your brothers of New Clairvaux
